When you want to come to the United States and work or you want to come as a permanent citizen you must obtain a green card visa. You must apply for the visa and then wait through the processing time for them to make a decision.

• The relative has to be a citizen or they must have lawful permanent residency and they must be able to submit documentation that they have this status.
• The have to prove that they can support you through filling out an Affidavit of Support. They must be able to support you at 125% above the poverty line for the United States.

If you fall into any of the following categories you will not have to wait for a visa number before you get your green card visa:

• Unmarried adult sons and daughter over the age of 21 of U.S. citizens.
• If you are married to someone already a permanent resident of the U.S., if your children under 21.
• Married sons and daughters who are already U.S. citizens
• Brother and sisters of adults who are already U.S. citizens
